Vegetarian Resveratrol Extract Supplement
Good 4 Life Vegetarian Resveratrol Supplement provides 40mg and is extracted from the perennial Japanese Knotweed plant native to East Asia.
Resveratrol, a naturally occurring antioxidant, is present in tiny amounts in grapes, cranberries, blueberries and even in peanuts, and is being studied for its cardiovascular and cancer related health benefits. Because the small variable amounts of resveratrol found in food sources, supplementation is recommended to obtain a reasonable and consistent intake.
Resveratrol found in red wine is the probable cause of the "French Paradox" where the French are less overweight and suffer a lower incidence of heart disease despite consuming a high fat diet. Research suggests that these apparent health benefits of red wine are attributable to resveratrol.
As a powerful antioxidant, resveratrol inhibits the degradation of lipids which are fat soluble vitamins and molecules (including A, D, E, and K) in the body and prevent lipid peroxidation (cell damage). Because resveratrol is able to dissolve with water and fats, it can offer more universal protection than other antioxidants like as vitamins C or E.
It also contributes to the prevention of atherosclerosis by reducing platelet aggregation in the blood.
In addition to its antioxidant properties, resveratrol has shown to act as an anti-mutagen; therefore, promising research is being conducted on its cancer-related health benefits. In some cases, resveratrol been reported to have decreased tumor activity by inhibiting enzymes that stimulate tumor-cell growth.
