Betacarotene is a carotenoid which are antioxidants that are responsible for the yellow, orange, and red coloration in fruits and vegetables. Beta Carotene is the most prevalent carotenoid in food and is thought to be the most important carotenoid for humans.
Betacarotene occurs exclusively in plant (fruit and vegetable) foods and enzymes in the intestines convert Betacarotene to Vitamin A whenever it is needed.
